Sound off!

Hey guys! I’m Lesley, one of the new social media interns for Go Rank’em for the fall. I along with the other social media intern, Colin, will be in charge of all of GRE social media accounts (Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, YouTube). I’ll be in charge of this blog for the next few months!

I’ll be sure to update it as much as possible with some new quality content. Starting now. But I want to hear your suggestions. What do you all want to see (or or even hear)?

I agree with points from both of these. I’m still trying to learn my way around google+, and in my opinion, the user experience could be better. I came across the problem today while I was g-chatting someone and I had my gmail open in one window and my google+ open in another, and the chat box was getting messed up when I switched back and forth between the windows. However, I do really love the concept of sorting people into different circles. It’s a great way to prioritize who you want to stay up to date with, where as Facebook uses their own personal algorithm to decide what you see on your feed. I like that google+ is putting that decision in their hands of the users. More thoughts?

Being a social media junkie, I jumped aboard the google+ train as soon as I could get an invite (thanks, Alex!). Now that I’m on it, I’m not really sure what to do with it or what purpose it’s supposed to be serving. To me, social media is best used as a tool to connect me with people. That being said, 99% of the people in my google+ circles are people that I’m already connected with through other social media outlets like my twitter and my personal tumblr page. So I’m asking you, what do you see as the purpose of google+? Do you see it taking over as the dominant social media website and replacing facebook at some point in the near future?

Facebook Launches Skype-Powered Video Chat & More [LIVE VIDEO]
Facebook is set to unveil video chat powered by Skype at its headquarters in Palo Alto, California.

I just don’t see the big deal here. Checking Facebook feels like an obligation most of the time, and I rarely use Skype. The only reason that it’s even on my computer is because I studied abroad last summer. What do you guys think? Is this a game changer for Facebook?

Could the recent surge in the popularity o fTumblr, coupled with a fall off in the use of Facebook, suggest we have another twist in social connectivity coming our way? Tumblr has reportedly hit 400 million users a day, and its success may be due to the very thing that Facebook tries so hard to eliminate - creativity within the confines of the platform. Tumblr promotes individuality whereas Facebook wants us all to be the same.” via

What do you guys think? Personally, the longer that I use tumblr, the less interested I am with Facebook. I check my newsfeed and it feels like an obligation, but I check my tumblr dash and I’m excited to see what’s going on in the lives of the people that I follow.

I’m a big foursquare user in my personal life, but I also see foursquare as an untapped resources for bands and people out there trying to market a product. Problem is, I’m just not sure how t go about utilizing foursquare to its full potential as a marketing tool. What do you guys think? Do you use foursquare or just think it’s a waste of time?

I support this theory 100%. If I feel connected to a band, or feel like they really appreciate their fan base, I will definitely shell out money for their music. Even more so if it’s a smaller band. But the Britney Spears’ and the Lady Gaga’s of the world? I’m much more likely to illegally download their cds, because they’re a lot less likely to put a face to their millions of fans faces. What do you guys think?

Personally, I say no way. I think Twitter is a great resource to get connected to people with similar interests.
